Modern-day Marie Antoinette: Kate Moss is transformed into a renaissance woman for a new Vogue spread at the Ritz Paris, shot just before the hotel closed for a two-year refurbishment, photographed by Tim Walker.
hey, do you happen to know any good short films/videos that would relate to journeys by any chance ? :/
Hey there! That’s a great question. Can I ask why short films? It’s so hard to grasp the essence of a journey in a short period of time. I can think of a lot of full length films that provide an amazing experience in the form of a journey. Some favourites: The Trip, Babel, In July (IM JULI).
This is the first Alexander McQueen show since he passed away that I really miss the designer. Sarah Burton has been fabulous, don’t get me wrong, but as I caught up on my fashion shows this morning and saw the looks for McQueen come down the runway, the first thing I thought of were “space sheep”. Space sheep, you ask? Yes….sheep…in space.
We’ve seen the oversized furs from Sarah for McQueen before. I remember exact looks in the fall 2011 show that look too similar to the recent line. The fur trim on everything, the fur bottoms of dresses and coats, large belts bringing in oversized coats. I truly felt this was the laziest line i’ve seen from her yet. It was like watching the wardrobe selection for Sesame Street characters.
Below are some examples, but definitely take a trip over to Vogue’s website and see for yourself. My opinion is my own, but something in me says Alexander (Lee) would have amazed me far more than this.
Elie Saab has been getting increasingly popular in the last couple of years. For quite some time I have been obsessed with the dresses that look as though gems have been fused to the dripping fabric and forced to melt in the sun. Every bride has also been dreaming of having her wedding dress be one of the last 2-3 years of white, ivory, and nude looks, or at least look similar to it. Pinterest has been blowing up with the mint perfection in the Spring 2012 line. You can’t avoid the popularity in such gorgeous gowns. I do like that the fall/winter line is steering away from the look that the populous seems to be obsessed with. It’s a lot darker, more urban and edgy, right up my alley.
“Whereupon a strange euphoria came over me. Not only was I exiled, paralyzed, mute, half deaf, deprived of all pleasures, and reduced to the existence of a jellyfish, but I was also horrible to behold. There comes a time when the heaping up of calamities brings on uncontrollable nervous laughter - when, after a final blow from fate, we decide to treat it all as a joke.”—The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Jean Dominique Bauby
