Fall 2012 RTW Part 1

Marc Jacobs

As a precaution on my review of this collection I have to say that there is not much that can top Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 for me. The perfection of every texture, fabric, and accessory of each look plays on repeat in my mind. (You can see my Fall 2011 post here: http://carrymycouture.tumblr.com/post/3308968735/oh-my-marc-jacobs )
On to Fall 2012 – First of all, the pimp hats and Ben Franklin loafers didn’t do it for me. There are a few things that are for sure: oversized knits, yellow, neon, bright primary colours, structured coats, and patterns aren’t going anywhere in fashion. His show was a fun escape from some of the more common ready to wear looks, and definitely a visual journey, but it’s hard to imagine many of the looks translating to street style.

The majority of the looks had a pea coat or blazer element to them. Some of the pea coats were fabulously structured, with great colours – forest green, pink, and purple. The blazers made my eyebrows rise, they slightly resembled a couch from the 70’s (for reference: the beginning scenes in the movie Now & Then). One thing brilliantly done was the layered textures. Each looked so thick, soft, lush, and luxurious all at once. The pattern mixing was impeccable and impressive for such strong and different patterns.

Below you’ll see some pieces I enjoyed, obviously the blacks and neutrals of the collection.

Victoria Beckham

If there is one thing this woman does right it’s creating dress after dress that women want to steal off of the models and wear them out the door. The ready to wear-ness of every look is flawless. Also, again with the forest green as a colour I’m seeing a lot in this season’s fashion week. Every look in this collection is what every woman wants to wear - and look like wearing it. Sexy heeled leather boots, mixed with ankle motorcycle booties with chunky knee high socks, form fitting thick cotton and wool dresses with perfect colour blocking, and models with a wonderful red lip. Okay so it’s not the most daring or inventive collection, but basics done perfectly make me happy.

Now for some looks that don’t need reviews:

Carolina Herrera

Jason Wu

Donna Karan

Alexander Wang

Prabal Gurung
